Unsure sailor in classic SSW day!

GWITHIAN TOWANS: Theres a car park over looking the sailing area, you only have to pay for the priviledge during the summer months. Theres also a cafe and shop situated opposite the carpark entrance. The waves work best mid the low tide as the water is pushing up to the cliff base at high tide. Either climb down the cliff at the right hand side of the carpark, a bit steep and slippery, or walk 500m to the right and down the path to the beach. The best wind direction is SSW, which is cross-off. This holds the waves upto and above mast high and clean. The down sides to this are the wave can be very heavy and unforgiving. SW winds produce cross shore conditions, but can be a bit choppy on the wave faces.

THE BLUFF: A better mid-high tide spot nearby for SW is The Bluff in Hayle (marked with an X on the map), right in front of The Bluff Inn. If its not too busy you can park in the pub car park. Access to the beach is to the righ to of the pub past the lifeguard hut and down the rocks to the small sandy beach, which is only there if the tide is not too high. If the tide is too high you can launch to the left of the pub on the beach at the end of a difficult 200m path. The Bluff is a smaller, easier and less heavy wave than Gwithian Towans, but still a great wave from mid to high tide. If there is a large swell be careful at low tide as it can become heavy and dumpy. In between The Bluff and Gwithian Towans there's approximatley 3 miles of beach. There are several holiday parks down this part of the beach which don't always allow access to the beach so check it out first. This vast area of water can offer the best mix of wave sizes and wind direction to suit your ability.
